ELHP hosts Universal Credit workshop

The ELHP Universal Credit Workshop took place on 23/09/2016, bringing together 30 officers from partner local authorities and registered providers to discuss the implications of the roll out of Universal Credit. Delegates heard presentations from the London Borough of Croydon, who outlined the challenges of implementing UC in emergency accommodation, and from the Department of Work and Pensions.

This was one of a series of workshops hosted by the ELHP in 2016/17, which include homelessness prevention (10/06/2016), winter shelters (06/10/2016) and violence against women and girls (30/11/2016).

Homelessness Reduction Bill

The Homelessness Reduction Bill is a Private Members' Bill that was presented to Parliament in June 2016. It proposes amendments to the Housing Act 1996 to make provisions for reducing homelessness.

ELHP has submitted a response to the Communities and Local Government Committee's pre-legislative Inquiry on the Bill. The ELHP supports a greater emphasis on homelessness prevention but notes that the Bill will significantly increase demand on housing services without delivering the resources or accommodation to meet that need.
